You know how it goes, you make all those promises to yourself such as ‘ On Monday I’m going to start my diet’ , ‘This weekend I am not going to drink any alcohol’ or ‘From next week I will go to the gym three times a week’ … The list goes on! And you know what sweeties? Only 1 out of 10 will actually follow this plan for 6 months or longer. Almost half of the people who make such promises quit after one week. I know this doesn’t sound very promising but if you think about it I’m not surprised that those plans never come to a success. Do you remember when you were little and your mom used to tell you: you HAVE to clean your room. Did you like that? Probalby not. The promises you make yourself are basically the same. If you tell yourself you HAVE to do something you are more likely to refuse it but if you WANT to do something you will make it much easier for yourself. I will give you a help with that.
- Why do you want it?
It’s not really possible to fake willpower, you simply have the discipline or you don’t. That’s why it’s so important to keep thinking why you want to make the change in your lifestyle. Why did you make the choice to change those things? You want to look good on your weddingday or you’re going on holiday with your friends and you want to score the cutest lover. Think beyond the here and now. Not just: what will it bring me right now? But: what will it bring in the future? Fantasise and dream honeys!
Losing weight to look good for one day (maybe the day of your prom) is just an extra bonus, but why do you really want to look good and toned? Not just for one night or one day, right? You are in it for the long haul! You want to feel happy and energetic :-)
- Shoot for the moon, not the stars
It’s okay to dream big and to shoot for the stars. But don’t make it to hard for yourself by setting a goal that is not realistic. When you say: I am never going to eat chocolate again! Who are you kidding? Instead you can better set a goal such as: On weekdays I am not going to eat chocolate. Don’t you think? You’re new and healthy lifestyle starts with setting the right goals. This makes it’s easier to keep on going and not to give up. Because you know you can do it!
- Be specific
Just like when you have certain goals at work, you want your personal goal to be as specific and clear as possible. So instead of thinking: I want to look pretty when I go away for the holidays. You should think: I want to lose 3 kilos in three months and get a more toned and slim body.
- Does it feel right?
Don’t talk yourself down. Listen to your heart. Does it feel right? Of course I unstand that it’s not everyone’s favorite activity to spend hours at the gym to work your ass off to get your dream body, but how do you feel when you think of the goal you have set? Everyone makes sacrificies, but you have to feel good doing it. Think of yourself walking down the beach and everyone is noticing your killer body.. Feels good right? ;-) That’s what we want!
- Rome wasn’t built in a day
You can compare your journey to a healthy lifestyle with climbing a mountain. The first meters will be easy, but then it gets misty and cold. It gets a bit harder and you start to think of giving up. But don’t give up yet! You want to reach the top right? Before you know it you can enjoy the terific view from the top! The first three weeks will be hard, but after that you will get used to your new healthy lifestyle! Your lifestyle has become a habit!
