I have already wrote a blog about how to stop eating sugar. Read my tips how you can do this. But I want to dedicate another blog to the importance of skipping sugar out of your diet. When I’m talking about sugar I mean refined sugar. This is not only important if you want to become slim and healthy. Ditching sugar also has a lot of benefits for your health in general. I find it such a shame sweeties that so many people still eat sugar on a daily basis while it’s so unhealthy for you.
I want to convince you that it’s better to stop eating refined sugar! I will give you 6 reasons to do so. Go for a sugar free life.
- You are bound to be happier
Increased sugar intake is directly correlated to higher rates of anxiety and depression. Sorry that I have to be so direct, but this is the ugly truth. Sugar may give you a temporary high, but that’s nothing compared to the long-term consequences. In long-term it effects the body’s ability to cope with stress and the production of the right mood-boosting chemicals, such as dopamine.
Therefor it’s better to choose for healthy nutritious products such as chicken, eggs and nuts which make it possible for your body to produce serotonin, also known as the happy hormone. Happy body, happy us.
- Your immune system will thank you
Sugar makes it harder for the body to ward off infections, but also a simple flu or cold. That is because sugar impedes white blood cell’s ability to do their job, which is to fight harmful bacteria. Besides that sugar also raises your blood pressure.
It’s better to give your body a helping hand by eating products that are rich in antioxidants and boost your immune system such as ginger and cinnamon.
- Say bye bye sugar addiction
There’s a reason your body craves for sugar. It’s addictive! Every time you eat sugar, your body releases the natural chemical dopamine. This chemical is responsible for many things in your body (motivation, learning ability, movement control, libido). You might think it’s a good thing your body releases this chemical, right? Guess again, it’s not. Sugar changes the way your body produces dopamine, which can lead to dependency. Every time it gets harder for your body to produce it on its own.
Do you have a sweet tooth? Eat products that consist of natural sugars. Of course in moderation. So don’t go running to your kitchen now to scoop out your honey jar ;-).
- Well hello smooth and radiant skin
Unfortunately it’s not possible to turn back time once you stop eating sugar, bummer. But it can slow down the aging process. Sugar creates new molecules in your body that attack the fibers in collagen and elastin. While these make your skin smooth and firm, so you can’t afford to lose them.
A good way to maintain a smooth and radiant skin is to eat products that are rich in vitamin C such as red pepper, strawberries and oranges.
- You will feel more energized
Sugar may give you a temporary high, but that’s just a quick fix. Because your blood sugar is bound to crash as fast as it went up. You will experience a washed out feeling more often when you consume sugar on a regular basis. That’s why it’s better to ditch it.
To feel energized you should eat products that contain healthy fats and protein such as nuts, fatty fish and chicken.
- You will sleep better
Stress and anxiety are common side effects of consuming sugar. You are more likely to toss and turn at night after a day of eating sugar. By ditching sugar, you will feel more relaxed and it allows you to rest at night. And we all know that a good night sleep is important to achieve a healthy and slim body, right?!
And… did I convince you? I hope so!
